Thompson is a small
( population about 15,000 ), modern city, in Northern Manitoba. Thompson is located just a bit North of the "55th parallel", or about 750 kilometers North of Winnipeg ( the provincial capital ).
Thompson is known as "The Hub Of The North". It began in 1956 as a "mining town". It now is also a center of government services, supplies, tourism, and cold weather testing. The nearby "CVRD / INCO" nickel mines provide much employment.
Thompson is set amid a rugged Northern wilderness of lakes, rivers, and swamps - the thick boreal forest covering the rocky "Canadian Shield". |
